So I just had a miracle fruit/berry tablet and tried several foods.

-- Tablet 1 --
[Score/10] - Trial - More Info
[8] First, lemon juice -- Great!
[8] 2 Full-sized Carrots = Yum.
[9] An apple = Good, maybe even overly sweet
[2] Triscuits = Tasted like triscuits...
[6] Unsweetened Chocolate = Tasted like semi sweet
[9] Semi-sweet Chocolate tastted like sweetened chocolate
[10] Glazed Ham lunch meat = Delcious.
[7] Wasabi Peas = Yummy Smiley but... sort of burned the sides of my tongue though, very odd experience indeed!

-- Tablet 2 --
[9] Annies Organic Macaroni and White Cheddar - Organic, yummy, added extra milk and it made the flavors even better
[10] Tap Water - I give this a 10 because who thought drinking water could be enjoyable (without being dehydrated beforehand)
[6] Coke Zero - Zero calories and it tastes almost as good as regular coke
[10] Good Times Vanilla Frozen Custard - This stuffs mostly only available in Colorado. They're having a $0.99 special right now on scoops so I gave it a shot.
[9] Good Times Mighty Deluxe Burger - All fresh ingredients so I got to try lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and all the yummy goodness together.. Great!

-- Tablet 3 -- [Yet to ingest, but here's my list of trials:]
[8] Sugar Free Bawls - Tastes very sweet, very enjoyable.
[8] Boulder Canyon Sea Salt and Cracked pepper potato chips - I accidentially bought this thinking I read it had vinegar, but it's still tasting good!
[6] Celery = Tastes a little better
[8] Celery + Sugar Free Bawls together = Good!
[10] Celery + Boulder Canyon Sea Salt and Cracked pepper potato chips - Alternating every few bites of celery with a potato chip REALLY brings out the taste of both and the crunchiness of both makes them seem fit for eachother. I really recommend giving this a shot. Didn't work with the other chips I tried but it did with these!
[8] plain celery + lemon & tellicherry pepper from grinder + salt = Almost as good as the potato chip combination, but it doesn't have the crunch you get with the potato chip combo

I got carried away with the celery and chips and now I'm full so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try these with a fourth tablet:

[] Lemon
[] Lime
[] Grapefruit
[] Orange
[] Green Onions

So far I'm convinced that there MUST be some sort of side effects to this berry, it's too good to be true! Ahhhh!

I'll keep you posted on my further attempts! Smiley

I would keep that in mind when taking one tablet after another after another.  I ordered some but have no plans to try it more than a few times.

Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is.

Our bodies must be preparing for an insulin / sugar absorption surge after sensing the sweets.  If this happens too often and our bodies become accustomed to not receiving the insulin and sugar when expected, what is going to happen to our blood sugar levels?

It may help people lose weight but at what costs?  Aside from the effects that all artificial sweeteners have in common, we'll just have to wait and see what will happen.

The only information I think we can know is experience, like you said. But there is a man that read about, the one that pretty much brought the berry to the states in the sixties, that ate thousands of them over and over and never had any problems. The other thing is, there is some sugar in whatever you are eating anyway, so your pancreas is responding. Does the pancreas respond to a signal you taste buds put out? I have never heard that, but that would be interesting.

That's one of the complaints against artificial sweeteners, they trigger your sweet receptors leading your digestive track to expect sugar and it gets none that can be processed. So you over eat, and go looking for sugars.

(splenda is a sugar your digestive track can not break down, though there are some gut bacteria that can (there is some nasty debate in the chrons/SCD diet communities, many believe your feeding the problem causing "bad" bacteria in your gut with splenda)).

I would argue that the miracle berry is masking the sour receptors and not the sweet receptors, so you are getting the sugar you tasted.

Then again I am not a Dr.

While I'll be the first to admit I'm not a doctor, I am somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to the pancreas and it's interaction with the endocrine system.  I research these things because I'm a type 1 diabetic, born with a pancreas that was doomed to fail me completely.  I've read extensively on this subject with the goal of improving my quality of life despite my condition.

Unless you can link me a peer reviewed article stating otherwise, blood sugar is generally lowered when the pancreas detects an increase in blood glucose levels and releases hormones called insulin.  We should be thankful that something like the taste sensation of sweet doesn't trigger the release of insulin.  If that were the case not swallowing candy would send you into a hypoglycemic attack, or eating things high in carbohydrates like bread, which normally aren't inherently sweet to taste, would go the other direction in to hyperglycemia.

On another note, I agree that I haven't seen enough research in to the possible side effects of consuming miracle fruit for me to draw any purely scientific conclusions, the poisons that normally make many fruits inedible are not present in large quantity in miracle fruit as is testified by the FDA classifying it as a food additive.  Sure miraculin could turn out to be a slow acting carcinogen, but I wouldn't count on it.  People have been eating it for years, so it can't be too bad.

In the end, without more evidence, I can't see any directly harmful results that come from consuming miracle fruit.  If anything, it helps me better regulate my blood sugar by allowing me to consume less sugar than would normally be necessary to make sour foods palatable.

On a side note, I recently made a blog post along these lines at http://www.growmiraclefruit.com/?p=5.

I was thinking of starting a new topic, but we have so many now...

In another topic a user said they had 99 percent Lindt chocolate with mf that tasted like "the best milk chocolate from Holland" or something like that, though its seems strange that mf could be so amazing as to change the origin of said chocolate, as Lindt is Swiss...(sorry)

Has anyone else had this experience? Does unsweetened (high quality) Chocolate taste sweet? I have had two brands of 99% and 100% with hopes that it did, but it did not. (There are so many variables in Chocolate, it seems unlikely)

For me and 9 other people I have had try it, Guinness did not taste like chocolate milk (as the same user claims), though it was better. What about you guys?

Why on earth would you want 99% cocoa chocolate to taste like milk chocolate?

I have high doubt that it tastes like milk chocolate, rather, sweet chocolate.
The benefit would be no sugar, yet all the sweetness of sugared up chocolate.
